Director's Notes
I blame my mother! As a divorced single parent short on reliable
babysitters, she took a pre-adolescent me to see R-rated horror movies, where I
sat on torn theater cushions in second-hand movie theaters and watched
celluloid nightmares taunt me through my interlaced fingers. This early exposure
to the dark demented dreams of middle aged - auteurs had an effect on me that
cannot fully be understood, except to say that I am now compelled to make
horror films. Somewhere in the depths of my unconscious I am determined to
examine the gulf between the supernatural and the natural world.
I never thought that I would make this film. It was just a germ of an idea to
make a short film that had all the trappings of a modern day gothic horror. As
I showed my script to more people I found that more people were drawn to my
aid. The fear I wanted to show on the screen was suddenly manifesting in me
with a real world anxiety and dread. Now, I would have to transfer my thoughts
safely ensconced on the scripted page to DVD where it could be viewed,
dissected and judged. I promise you that never a more frightening thought has
ever plagued a filmmaker.
In assembling my crew I had to be sure that the people who were helping me create
this vision of unsettling creeping terror were fans of the genre. I needed to make
sure that the cast and crew would both understand what my vision was - and that was
to scare audiences on a more sub dermal level. This film serves as a counterpoint to
the bloody gory splatter-fest, not to supplant it in the minds of horror enthusiasts, but to
offer an alternative.
This film ponders the question: What would we do
if the impossible confronted us and bore its fangs? My hope is that audiences
will see this film and enjoy our efforts.
